THE HIDE COMMUNITY TRUST

Our support is through capacity building, community outreach programs and commercial tourism. The Hide community Trust works hand in hand with the Hide Safari Camp, where the camp itself stimulates the local economy by employing staff from the surrounding communities as well as develops skills. The trust is helping to tackle the root causes of poverty and environmental devastation. Meaning that the local economy can develop further, with poverty falling and environmental pressures decreasing, resulting in more optimism in the region.

MISSION

The Hide Community Trust is a small, non-profit organization which runs alongside The Hide Safari Camp. We work in a holistic manner with communities surrounding Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe and support them by helping to come up with sustainable development initiatives. Our aim is for the relief of poverty, the promotion of education, as well as the benefits of conservation. Together we can work to help uplift our people and improve their quality of life.

We have a ‘start small, think big’ mentality which allows projects to progress organically over a longer period. We believe this will also help generate a higher level of trust. With all that we do, we aim to create circumstances in which individuals and communities can prosper. This includes generating wealth and promoting social enterprise as well as providing direct support where necessary.

Current Initiatives

Education

We believe education to be the best place to start, children are the next generation and they will lead the way. We work with schools in remote areas that receive very little support.

Apiculture and Elephants

Bee Hive Fencing is a sustainable solution to human/wildlife conflict. Bee hive fences help to deter elephants from raiding crops and provide local communities with an added source of income.

Women’s Training Center

We are in the midst of setting up a women’s training center. This will be a place for women to come and learn income generating skills as well as a place to hold workshops for life skills.
